Talk, concert set for Poland Spring Maine first week of August

POLAND SPRING — The Poland Spring Preservation Society’s summer events continue with a concert and talk scheduled for the first week of August.
At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, the Grass Holes will perform at the Gazebo at Poland Spring Resort.

The Grass Holes are a five-piece bluegrass outfit featuring fast-paced originals, sweet sounding traditional numbers, and creative takes on popular tunes in the bluegrass style. The band features the Bangor Symphony’s Heather Kahill, UMaine-Augusta music school graduate Flann O’Brien, Sam Pfeifle ( Formerly of indie rock trio Brenda Walsh) WMPG radio host and P.S.P.S Board Member Merrill Marsh, and on the five-string banjo Field Rider.
Poland Spring Preservation Society hosts free concerts every Monday throughout the summer. If it rains, concerts will be held in the All Soul’s Chapel. All concerts are free and open to the public.
At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug., 8, there will be an illustrated talk about the relationship between the Ricker family and the Shaker community. It will take place in All Souls Chapel, 37 Preservation Way.
The talk will tell the story of a collaboration that began in the late 170’s and continues today. The association is between America’s longest lived religious communal society and one of the country’s most noted resort/entrepreneurial families. The individuals involved are as fascinating as the events engendered by the friendship.
Suggested donation is $5 and will benefit the Poland Spring Preservation Society. Water and cookies will be provided.
