LEWISTON — Androscoggin Bank has announce the appointment of Neil Kiely to president of Androscoggin Bank effective immediately. He succeeds Paul Andersen, the current president.
Andersen will retain the title of CEO until Dec. 31, 2019, at which point Kiely will assume the CEO role as well.
The Board of Directors has elected Andersen as vice chairman of the board of directors to eventually succeed Pasquale Maiorino as board chairman.
“I am very excited to have Neil Kiely become our next president,” said Maiorino. “Paul and I knew he was the right person to lead the organization after working with him as a fellow board member for five years and then watching the impact he has had on our organization, first as chief strategic officer and then as chief operating officer leading the bank’s executive team. Paul Andersen is an experienced leader, and we are pleased he has agreed to assume the role of vice chair and will work closely with Neil as he transitions to the role of CEO. Given his wealth of knowledge and leadership in the community, having Paul assume a leadership role on the board was an integral part of the succession planning process by the Board. ”
As Andersen notes, “In searching for my successor, I knew we needed someone unique who could lead the Bank through rapidly changing times for our industry while maintaining our unwavering commitment to serving our clients, employees and communities as a values-based organization. An experienced attorney and entrepreneur with proven leadership abilities, Neil was the strategic choice. Having had the pleasure of working closely with Neil over the last several years, I have been very impressed with his personal integrity, business acumen and focus on the bank’s values. His strategic vision, out-of-the-box thinking and energy has ignited precisely the positive change we were seeking when we convinced him to join the bank.”
As COO, chief strategy officer and general counsel, Kiely has been instrumental in leading a substantial transformation of the Bank including refocusing the organization on its Mission, Vision and Values, and introducing numerous technological advances such as the implementation of a sophisticated Customer Relationship Management system as well advanced cyber security capabilities. He also led the formation of a Business Intelligence team, a renewed focus on small business and introduced Private Banking for clients with more complex needs. In addition, he and Andersen partnered with Jim McLeod and Amelia Kurtz in the successful launch of a new subsidiary, Portland Trust Company to offer sophisticated trust, wealth management and private banking solutions to clients. Outside of the office, Kiely serves on the USM University of Southern Maine Advisory Board, the State Advisory Board for the Trust for Public Land and the Community Concepts Board in Lewiston.
When asked about his new role, Kiely said, “It is a privilege to succeed Paul in leading such a talented team of employees in an organization with a deep history of service to its clients and its communities. As a mutual bank without shareholders or Wall Street pressure, we are able to make decisions based solely on the best interest of our clients, employees and communities. My commitment is to honor that foundation while leveraging my prior experience as an executive and business owner to support our team in taking the Bank to the next level. Our goal is nothing short of transforming the experience of community banking for our clients, our employees and the communities we serve.
