WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library will host its traditional silent auction beginning Thursday, Aug. 2, with the opening reception.
The reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. The auction will take place at the newly renovated Williams House, across the street from the library at 14 Old Winthrop Road.
The reception will offer an early look at the many items for auction; they will be on display throughout the following week for bidders. Bids will close Saturday, Aug. 11, at noon.
The library’s auction is known for its display of vintage treasures from the camps and cottages of Wayne, as well as many hand-crafted and distinct offerings.
Items will include a Sunfish sailboat with restored hull and fairly new sails (with bag). Red Sox tickets for Sept. 12 (vs. Toronto Blue Jays) again will be offered.
Glassware, pottery, jewelry, framed art, furniture and needlework will be on display. Children’s items include collectible dolls and hand-made American Girl doll outfits. Harry Potter wands will be back, while they last.
This year’s featured hand-made children’s book, written by Pat Rochkind, introduces frogs Felix and Flo, handcrafted by Jo Moore. The whimsical story relates the adventures of two polliwogs as they develop first into tadpoles, and then frogs, as they search for their new home. Rochkind and Moore’s original stories and stuffed animals have been a popular auction mainstay and make great gifts for the children and grandchildren.
“The Cary Library’s annual auction is a great way to catch up with neighbors and friends, support the library, and go home with some treasures,” said Janet Adelberg, director of the Cary Memorial Library. “Our volunteers and village residents love this annual Wayne event. It attracts visitors from near and far.”
