GRAY — The 2018 Gray Blueberry Festival — “Celebrating Community, Connection & Culture” — will be held 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, on Main Street.
Admission is free, and new for this year are historical tours of the Pennell building, 24 Main St., and the town clock, followed by a presentation on “Super Pollinators” — landscaping your yard to attract pollinators like native bees.
Other special activities include Skill Share talks, “make ‘n take: workshops for felted soap, watercolor, baskets, jams, stencil painted signs and honeybees; a Pollinator’s Parade; a one-of-a-kind bean gag toss golf course, and other lawn games.
Blueberries will be available for purchase, and there will be multiple events during the day, including a pie-eating contest at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Live music, food trucks, a jam-off, vendors, artisans, a community expo, wagon rides, animals, diaper derby, fun run dash, climbing wall, inflatables, lawn games, firetrucks on display and kids’ tent activities. The Maine Wildlife Park on Route 26 will hold its annual Attean Family Pow Wow the same weekend. The planning committee has been working toward making this a zero-waste event.
