Sparrows Nest Theater to feature ‘Little Women’ July 12 to 15

INDUSTRY — The Sparrow’s Nest Theater will present its summer production of “Little Women” for four days, beginning Thursday, July 12.
Directed by Anson resident Diane Leeman, the play is based on the Louisa May Alcott classic novel.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 12, 13 and 14; and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the theater, 1114 West Mills Road.
“Little Women,” first published in two volumes 150 years ago, is loosely based on the author and her three sisters. It follows the lives of the four March sisters — Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy — as they grow from girls into young women during the Civil War.
The story reflects on the “endurance of family, the power of love, and what it means to stay true to oneself.” From authentic period costumes and props to the recreation of a lovely parlor in the mid-1800s, the Sparrows Nest production of “Little Women” will take you back in time in the air-conditioned comfort of the quaint theater.
The cast showcases adults and children from Somerset and Franklin counties, including several families, who work together to bring an exemplary theater experience to the local community.
Director Diane Leeman is president of the Sparrow’s Nest Theater Board of Directors. She has acted in several productions at Lakewood Theater and works as a teacher at the Millstream Elementary School in Norridgewock.
Entertaining audiences with local talent since 2006, Sparrows Nest Theater puts on four productions throughout the year.
The spring and fall productions are adult-themed shows, while the summer and winter shows are family oriented productions.
After producing the ever-popular “Steel Magnolias” this spring, “Crimes of the Heart” is scheduled for this year’s fall production and “Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus” is scheduled for the December/Christmas show. Sparrows Nest Theater will also offer a Fairy Tale Camp for children ages 6 to 12 and a special Shakespeare event for teens in August.
