Libby leads move to name Norridgewock bridge after Cole

AUGUSTA — The Maine Senate recently unanimously voted to enact legislation that names the Norridgewock bridge over the Kennebec River in honor of Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputy Cpl. Eugene Cole, of Norridgewock, who was killed in the line of duty on April 25.

Assistant Senate Democratic Leader Nate Libby, D-Lewiston, and originally from Norridgewock, was the lead Senate sponsor of the legislation.
“Cpl. Eugene Cole represented the very best of Norridgewock,” Libby said. “Renaming this iconic bridge in his honor represents a lasting tribute to his memory and service. We could all learn a lot from the life and wisdom of Cpl. Cole. I hope that when people drive over the Cpl. Eugene Cole Memorial Bridge, they are reminded of his legacy and his profound commitment to family, community and public safety.”
