RANGELEY — The town has contracted with Thomas A. Stevens Cemetery Restorations to repair and clean the old stones in several cemeteries.
Nile Brook Cemetery was completed in 2016, with some follow up repairs to be completed this month. Evergreen Cemetery will have the front old sections of the cemetery done, with Wilbur Cemetery and Schoolhouse Cemetery being completed as well.
The town has no responsibility for private stones, but determined through the work of the Cemetery Committee that this was a worthwhile project for the town to take on as some of the stones were in such disrepair and there are no living relatives to take care of them any longer.
The cemeteries will be “under construction” for the next few weeks, and the town is asking visitors to be patient while the process continues. If you have any questions, contact Tricia Roy, town clerk at 207-864-3326.
