READFIELD — Registration for football camps for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade will begin Monday, July 23, and a car show to support the program will be held Sunday, Aug. 12.
The camps will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the football practice field adjacent to the upper parking lot at Maranacook High School, 2250 Millard Harrison Drive.
Campers must bring a signed release form, proof of health insurance, cleats or sneakers and water bottle.
Although not an RSU 38 program, forms can be found on the Maranacook school website, www.Maranacook.org. Forms will be available at the camps as well.
Registration nights are as follows:
* K-second grades (flag t-shirt) — July 23, 25, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
* Fifth and sixth grades (youth – full gear) — July 23, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (registration only)
* Third and fourth grades (pee wee – full gear) — July 25, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (registration only)
* Seventh and eighth grades (middle school – full gear — July 23, 25, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.(registration only)
Equipment will not be issued without registration forms signed by parent/guardian, registration fee and equipment deposit check. Separate deposit check is needed for all levels. If cost is prohibiting a player to sign up, there is a scholarship available. In support of the program, the ninth annual Ricky Gibson Memorial Car & Motorcycle Show will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Augusta Civic Center, 76 Community Drive, Augusta.
Registration will be held from 8 to 10 a.m., and the show itself will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The car show is named in honor of Ricky Gibson, who died in 2009 at age 15 while a sophomore at Maranacook High School. He was a member of the varsity football team and was diagnosed with pontine glioma, an aggressive malignant brain tumor.
