Jun. 182018

LEWISTON – Androscoggin Bank has named the recipients of its bi-annual grant awards by Greater Giving, a community impact program focused on supporting nonprofits and organizations that benefit the community in three specific areas — economic development, education and the arts.
The upcoming deadline for the second cycle of 2018 grants is June 30.
The Greater Giving awards committee approved grants to the following organizations:

2018 First Cycle Grant Awards:
* Sandcastle Clinical and Educational Services (Lewiston)– $2,500 was awarded to this Lewiston-based non-profit to support their mission to provide a full range of clinical and educational services to individuals of all ages and abilities. This grant will help them complete a planned project to build an outdoor educational environment allowing all children to learn and play regardless of ability or limitations.
* The Public Theatre (Lewiston) — $2,500 was awarded to this Lewiston-based organization, providing an opportunity for all Lewiston/Auburn elementary school students to attend a presentation of the inspirational “Everybody Loves Pirates!” The performance which will teach students about respect, compromise, and caring for our environment.
* Lewiston High School — $700 was awarded to Lewiston High School to provide financial support to students visiting Morse Mountain Conservation Area this summer. This trip will be an opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to our natural world.
* Literacy Volunteers — Androscoggin (Lewiston) — $1,500 was awarded to this Lewiston based organization that provides free, one-on-one tutoring and educational resources to help adults and families in Androscoggin County. The Greater Giving grant will support their efforts as they invest in new technological resources and training for their team of volunteers.
The Greater Giving program’s philosophy is that “community impact through partnership” is not only an exercise in volunteer hours and money donated but also an emphasis on community partnerships and choosing to focus giving efforts in strategic areas where the bank can make the biggest difference. In addition to the bank’s continual commitment to expanding its relationships in ways that benefit the community, it accepts grant applications twice each year as part of the Greater Giving program, due June 30 and Dec. 31 each year.
According to Alicia Miller, director of client relationships at Androscoggin Bank, “We believe targeted and focused efforts offer the biggest return for our community partners. An important part of the Androscoggin Bank culture is our passion for partnering with clients and helping them succeed, which is part of earning relationships. We do this through our expert advice, our attention to detail, a willingness to help, and through in-kind donations. We want everything we do to create a ripple of impact across the community. Greater Giving is our formal process for making that impact.”
