LEWISTON — A variety of organizations in Androscoggin and Franklin counties are partnering to provide a certified nursing assistant training program, which begins with orientation Tuesday, June 19. Classes begin the following week.
CareerCenters and Western Maine Community Action in Lewiston and Wilton, Franklin County Adult Education, and Genesis HealthCare are sponsoring the program, which will include 180 hours of classroom instruction, 20 hours of lab skills and 70 hours of clinical experience in a long-term health care facility.
Those who complete the course successfully will sit for the state CNA exam and will have the opportunity to interview for a position with Genesis Healthcare.
Candidates must pass a Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems reading and math assessment, be over 18 years of age, have the ability to work in the United States and pass necessary background checks to be accepted into the program.
Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19. The 11-week class begins Monday, June 25, and will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. There is no charge for individuals who financially qualify.
