AUBURN — In recognition of its efforts in using technology to engage students and improve learning, Central Maine Community College has placed third nationally in the 2017-18 Digital Community Colleges Survey.
Now in its 13th year, the survey analyzes how community colleges use a range of technologies to enhance services to students, faculty, staff and the community at large.
The top colleges, including CMCC, reflect a comprehensive implementation of technology supporting the educational institution’s operations.
Dean of Information Technology and Chief Information Security Officer Bob Boucher said that CMCC’s high ranking is largely because of strong leadership and support for leveraging cutting-edge technology to maximize institutional effectiveness and customer service.
The only colleges in the category to score higher than CMCC were Manchester Community College in New Hampshire and Rappahannock Community College in Virginia. There are more than 1,400 community colleges in the United States.
The survey also revealed insights about community colleges’ technology priorities. Colleges surveyed indicated that mobility devices/app support is their top priority for the coming year, followed by cyber security tools and testing, website redesign/updates, upgrading classroom technologies, digital content and curriculum, and disaster recovery/business continuity
