Livermore Falls Women’s Club holds end of year luncheon, program

LIVERMORE FALLS — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Livermore Falls Women’s Club met recently at the Harris House in Livermore Falls.
Staff of the Harris House — a 12-bed intermediate care facility for people with intellectual disabilities — prepared a luncheon for club members in appreciation for all they have done for them this year.

Fresh cut lilacs were on each table and a buffet of sandwich, soup and a variety of desserts were offered. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and was a wonderful setting for the last meeting before breaking for the summer. Each place setting had a card on volunteers and inside was a seed paper in the shape of a butterfly that when planted will bloom.
Diane Woods, director of social services, spoke about the history of Harris House and her duties as director. June Allen, director of activities, spoke about the programs for the residents and how the staff gets them to be more visible in the community by volunteering, attending sporting events, parades and even helping deliver papers to patients at the hospital. Club members put together a breakfast-based raffle basket, with all proceeds going to Harris House’s equipment fund.
Recently elected state president of GFWC, Nancy Ames, and president-elect Carol Jarvis, attended the event. Nancy gave an overview of what she would like to do for the next two years. One of her programs will be supporting veterans, fire, police, first responders and others who protect and keep us safe. She also mentioned Maine will be hosting the GFWC New England Conference at Sunday River Resort in Newry and to hold the dates — Sept.28-30.
Marjorie Black, the newly elected chair of ESO (Episilon Sigma Omigron), a reading program, gave a brief overview of the program and encouraged us to participate in this program.
The nominating committee of Bonnie Perkins, chairwoman, Betty Forbes and Barbra Letalien presented the following candidates for consideration — Parliamentarian, Frances Berry; treasurer, Christine Fournier; secretary, Bonnie Perkins; vice-president, Susan Sylvester; and president, Ellen Young. The candidates were elected for the term 2018-2020.
Members briefly discussed Family Fun Day, June 9, at Harris House and the Livermore election bake sale June 12 with profits going to Spruce Mountain Primary School food cupboard.
In late July or early August a planning session will be held to determine what programs the club would like to have offered for the upcoming year. Finally, the summer outing will be Sept. 5 at Lakewood Theatre to see “Anne of Green Gables.”
The next meeting will be held in September to kick off the new year. Anyone wishing more information or wanting to join may contact Ellen at ggeh@roadrunner.com
