ELMIRA, N.Y. — Atupele Machika of Hebron, Maine, was recently recognized at the opening reception of the Elmira College Senior Art Majors Show as well as at the Athletic Awards reception.
Machika won honorable mention for an an installation of paintings and sculpture based on memories of her home country Malawi at the art reception, May 17.
The exhibit was judged by regional artist Tom Oberg.
On May 21, she was named Booster Club Player of the Year in field hockey.
Machika graduated cum laude from the college on June 2.
The class of 2018 included more than 140 graduates receiving summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude honors. The exercises included 270 undergraduate and 27 graduate students.
