‘Going Native’ with plants in your landscape discussion June 13

MONMOUTH — Heather McCargo, founder and director of the Wild Seed Project, will be at Cumston Library, Monmouth, June 13, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the project and gardening with native plants.

Wild Seed Project is a Maine-based nonprofit working to increase the use of native plants in all landscape settings in order to conserve biodiversity, encourage plant adaptation in the face of climate change, and to create pollination and migration corridors for insects, birds and other wildlife. What if you could create a beautiful landscape in your yard with plants that came well-adapted to your soil and climate? Planting natives is a simple way to be a part of the solution to support animals like Monarch butterflies and many kinds of birds.
In this talk, McCargo will explore gardening with native plants under a variety of different site conditions — sunny moist, sunny dry, shady and acidic woodlands, looking at a diverse collection of native plants for the home landscape and learning easy techniques for sowing them.
