National Safety Council active shooter training offered free in Belgrade June 21

BELGRADE — The National Safety Council and the town of Belgrade will offer free training for area residents Thursday, June 21, on what to do in an active shooter situation.
The two-hour course, developed by the National Safety Council, covers how to protect oneself from harm and walks participants through the most effective responses.

“Even though the likelihood is slim, our residents need to be confident in the face of catastrophe,” said Michael Miranda, National Safety Council instructor. “Active shooter situations escalate quickly, so being prepared and knowing exactly how to respond quickly could mean the difference between life and death.”
“In reality, there are other issues that pose greater risk to our day-to-day safety, but an active shooter situation is among the most deadly events that could occur,” said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. “We applaud communities for training residents how to respond, although we hope no one ever needs to put the training into practice.”
