AUGUSTA — The Kennebec Valley YMCA held its annual meeting May 16, naming the employee, director and volunteer of the year, as well as its officers for the coming year.
Harry Lanphear was awarded the Mike Seitzinger Director of the Year award; Feargal Semple won the Harry Lanphear Employee of the Year award, and Emily Simonton was named the Edward Nicholas Volunteer of the Year.
Bill Bridgeo was installed as board president, replacing Lanphear, who held the position for several terms and will continue to serve as the Endowment Committee chairman.
Julie Barter-Lucas was appointed as vice president, Gail Conley as treasurer, and James Bass as secretary.
Bridgeo has been an active member and champion of the YMCA since his time as a lifeguard and youth counselor while an undergraduate at St. Michael’s College in Burlington, Vt. He and his wife, Janice, a second-grade teacher in Winthrop, made sure their son Will and daughter Claire took full advantage of the Y’s programs and facilities while they grew up in Augusta.
Bridgeo has been a member of the KV YMCA’s board of directors for the past 10 years. He has been city manager in Calais and Canandaigua, N.Y, and for the past 20 years in Augusta.
Barter-Lucas, a financial advisor at Edward Jones, strongly believes in giving back to her community. Aside from the KV Y, is on the board of the Augusta Boys and Girls Club, and is also a member of the Augusta Rotary Club and the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce.
She and her husband, Peter live in Readfield.
Conley is a regional vice president and director of investment services at Kennebec Savings bank. She also serves on the Maine Children’s Trust Board as vice chair and on the Junior Achievement board of Kennebec Valley.
She lives in Whitefield with her husband, Steve, and has two children.
Bass is a co-founder and partner at Soltan Bass Smith Attorneys at Law. In 2017, Bass co-founded Cushnoc Brewing Co. in Augusta with three friends. Active in the community, besides the Y, Bass serves on the Augusta Board of Zoning Appeals and the Augusta Parking District. He is also a member of the Capitol Planning Commission. He and his wife, Ami, live in Augusta. They have one child and are expecting another.
