LEWISTON — The Lewiston High School tennis teams are on a roll, the girls on a 9-0 win streak, and the boys with a 7-2-0 record.
Both teams were undefeated as of May 14, when the boys beat a young Skowhegan team 5-0, and the girls beat Camden by the same score.
The girls are coached by Anita Murphy who has built the program for 40 years. The girls made it all the way to the Class A North final last year where their season ended with a 13-2 record. They lost several top players to graduation, but their hot streak this season proves the program is still strong. This year’s returning players are senior Hope Bowen, juniors Jillian Pelletier, Emma Paquette, sophomores Maddy Foster, Molly Chicoine and Roslynn Wailus. Some newcomers are Amelie Sperandio, Abby and Julia Syor, Julia Paquette, Emma Begin and Lauren Foster.
The boys coach, Tom Leblonde, is in his seventh year with the Blue Devils. Last season the boys were state runners-up at Class A Tournament play. The 2018 squad members are juniors Caden and Jacob Smith, Sam Frechette, Ethan Weiss, Hayden Bavis and sophomores Jeremy Helper and Ben St. Laurant. They hope to be contenders in the Class A North as well as the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference.
