WATERVILLE — The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program is offering several parenting classes for the 2018 spring/summer season in Kennebec County.
The classes range from how to be a more effective parent to brain development for children and teens. The classes are free, but pre-registration is required.
Classes include:
The First Five Years: A series of four sessions that covers discipline methods that work, how to prevent tantrums, establishing routines to make life easier and more. Includes video and discussion, and is designed for parents of children from birth to 5 years old. Classes are 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, May 29 to June 19, Winthrop Congregational Church.
Community Nuturing: A 10-session program that covers topics of brain development of children and teens, stages of growth for infants and toddlers and tools for communication and dealign with stress. Classes are 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays May 22 to July 24, at KVCAP in Augusta (Buker Center).
Active Parenting Now: A six-week series that covers how to handle daily parenting challenges, includes video and discussion, for parents and care providers of children ages 5 to 12. The program is designed to help raise responsible children by using effective discipline techniques and encouragement skills. Classes are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays from May 16 to June 30 at KVCAP in Waterville.
