AUBURN — Pancakes and Mailhot sausages are once more on the breakfast menu at the upcoming 2018 Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast.
The fundraiser, sponsored each year by the Lewiston Auburn Kiwanis Club, will be held from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, June 3, at St. Dominic Academy, 121 Gracelawn Road.
Assistance will be provided by local Key Clubs and the Mid-Maine Lewiston HOG Chapter 1980.
Club President Paul Gauvreau, who joined the club in 1979, said 2018 marks the 60th pancake breakfast sponsored by the local service organization — the breakfast was skipped one year. Since the club’s first breakfast event, thousands of dollars have been donated to a variety of area youth-based programs.
“We are very delighted to feature children’s activities at the breakfast,” Gauvreau said, noting highlights will include a visiting balloon artist from Oxford Hills Entertainment, a bounce house, face painting, and Mr. Drew and His Animals Too! Drew Desjardins, who has worked with exotic animals for more than 36 years, will introduce children to several of his critters and reptiles between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The animal program focuses on animals Desjardins has rescued and rehabilitated.
Gauvreau said the Kiwanis motto is “Serving the Children of the World.”
“Our club supports the children of our community in many ways — sponsoring an immunization awareness program in concert with the Maine Center for Disease Control, supporting the Boys and Girls Club in Auburn, assisting in fundraising for Boy Scout Troop 121, contributing to the work of the Children’s Advocacy Project (which addresses the physical and sexual abuse of children), providing family passes to state parks through local library programs, sponsoring Key Clubs in local high schools, and providing college scholarships for area youth,” he said.
The event is open to the public and features all-you-can-eat pancakes, Mailhot’s sausage, and all-you-can-drink Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
“You might also bump into one of our ‘notable’ guest pancake flippers or servers,” he added, “possibly a local mayor, state senator or other dignitary.” He said it is held rain or shine.
Advance tickets are $6. Children age 5 and under are free. Tickets can be bought at The Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce (415 Lisbon St., Lewiston); Victor News, 59 Park St., Lewiston; Lisbon High School Key Club, Sugg Drive, Lisbon Falls; St. Dominic Academy main office, 121 Gracelawn Road, Auburn; from any Lewiston-Auburn Kiwanis Club member; Shaw’s; Dunkin’ Donuts.
Tickets also will be available at the door on the day of the event for $7.
The breakfast is sponsored by Pediatric Associates of Lewiston, Proctor and Gamble/Tambrands, Geiger, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mailhot Sausage, Cote Brothers, McDonald’s, Modern Woodmen, and this year’s media partners, Turner Publishing and Sun Journal.
