LIVERMORE — Long-time members were honored at the April meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Livermore Falls Women’s Club took place at the Masonic Hall.
The guest speaker was Stephanie Crowe from SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope) providing volunteer support services to seniors in Androscoggin and Franklin counties.
Membership pins were given out during the meeting for the the first time in the club’s history.
Five-year pin: Cristine Fournier, Pam King, Bonnie Perkins, Lisa Townsend and Ellen Young.
10 year pins: Lucille Lavoie, Barbara L’italien, and Gail Slade.
15-year pin: Phyllis Anctil.
20-year pins: Nancy Conant and Betty Forbes.
25-year pin: Barbara Hathaway.
30-year pin: Ruth Gammon.
35-year pin: Bettty Nichols.
40-year pin: Muriel Bowerman.
Crowe told members that Franklin County experiences the highest rate of need for services for seniors who are alone. She said SEARCH provides suport, companionship and friendly visits, help with errands, telephone support, working in the home and yard and referring other community services and programs when needed.
People of all ages can apply to be a volunteer. Current volunteers include the elderly, high school and college students.
The next meeting will be Thursday, May 24, at the Harris House, 45 Brookside Ave., Livermore Falls. Lunch will be served by the staff, and the meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m.
The meeting was adjourned and the members enjoyed a birthday cake in celebration of the Federation’s 128th year.
Refreshments were provided by Sue Sylvester and Lucille Lavoie, and the birthday cake was made by Chris Judd.
