KVCAP receives $115,500 to help with affordable housing

WATERVILLE — The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program, a member of the NeighborWorks network, will receive $115,500 in flexible grants from the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, which will support its affordable housing and community development activities.

“The lack of affordable housing is an ongoing concern in central Maine,” said Suzanne Walsh, KVCAP’s chief executive officer. “NeighborWorks funding allows us to explore new affordable housing options in our region, similar to the Gerald Senior Residence in Fairfield.”
KVCAP will use the money to support affordable housing development, community building and engagement activities, and to support other programs within its Energy and Housing Department. KVCAP also will continue to support a variety of community engagement activities, such as working with the Cony Village Homeowner’s Association in Augusta and the South End Neighborhood Association in Waterville.
In fiscal year 2017, the NeighborWorks network counseled 181,400 families and individuals on financial capacity, pre-purchase, post-purchase, or foreclosure issues; owned and managed 165,500 rental homes; and created more than 43,000 jobs.
