NORWAY– The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine board of directors has hired Mary Dempsey as the center’s executive director.
Started in 2015, and receiving its 501C3 status in 2016, the center was created to provide free supportive resources to those affected by cancer.
“We’re pleased to welcome Mary to the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine,” said Barb Deschenes, chairman of the board. “With her years of experience, we’re confident she will have a positive impact in shaping the growth of our services and help meet the increasing demand.”
The Cancer Resource Center shares a special relationship with Stephens Memorial Hospital –located on the campus but not part of the hospital. “We are grateful for our collaboration with the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine which provides valuable programs and resources to our patients and families during a very difficult time” commented Margaret Burns, RN, PhD, senior vice president, clinical.
“Mary’s role will be to run the center and coordinate and contribute to all efforts to grow the non profit. Sherri Otterson will continue as part time Center Supervisor,” commented vice chairwoman Judy Stone.
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is located at 199 Main St., in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday and Friday or by appointment.
Survivors, caregivers and family members of those affected by cancer are welcome to attend any of the Cancer Resource Center’s free programs. Offerings include a variety of wellness programs, comfort items, creative expressions classes, support groups, resources and more.
