AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has a variety of programs for teens scheduled for May, and has also announced its summer reading program for teens.
Unless otherwise noted, programs are for ages 12-18.
Maine Job Corps will be available to speak with teens and new adults, ages 16-24, by appointment. Those interested can contact Cathie Gavett of the Maine Job Corps at 207-458-5369, to find out more about this program and who is eligible.
There are weekly “Tweens in the Teen Space” programs for sixth graders on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. There is also a Teen Anime Club that meets in the Androscoggin Community Room.
Homework Help, SAPARS (Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services), Gaming Hour and a variety of other programs are offered. For program information call 207-333-6640, ext. 4, or visit www.auburnpubliclibrary.org. Another option is to follow the Teen Space on Facebook and Pinterest.
The annual summer reading program for teens will run from Tuesday, June 26, through Thursday, Aug. 9. The theme will be “Libraries Rock,” and the focus is music.
Chicks With Sticks Steel Drummers will be on hand to kick off the summer program, in a concert open to all ages.
Summer reading program activities will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on the front lawn or in the Androscoggin Community Room.
For each book read, participants will turn in a reading slip for a chance to win the weekly drawings, held July 5, 12, 19, 26, Aug. 2 and 9.
Participants may also turn in a book review for a chance to win a book bundle (to be drawn Aug. 9). The top reader for the summer (June 26-Aug. 9) will also be named on Aug. 9.
Each weekly program attended also provides a chance at the weekly drawing. Programs will include karaoke singing, an Xbox Rock Band competition, exploring the history of hip hop, hosting gaming hours, movies and more.
The Pizza & Pages Summer Reading Group will read “Solo” by Kwame Alexander, “Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell and “Beautiful Music for Ugly Children” by Kirstin Cronn-Mills. Participating teens will get to keep their copies of the books.
The Teen Summer Reading Program is for anyone ages 12-18 entering seventh through 12th grades.
