TURNER — Mark Herman won this year’s 2018 HORSE basketball tournament at Leavitt High School in April. The event is organized and supported by many area businesses to raise money for the state Department of Health and Human Services’ Maine Suicide Prevention Program and the Turner Athletic Association.
Maine has a suicide rate of one death every two days.
Money raised is split between the two programs. The tournament was organized by Bob Bowie, a member of the Turner Athletic Association.
In addition to entry fees, money was also raised through a raffle table and a silent auction.
