TURNER — Robert A. “Papa” Mason, 80, a lifelong resident of North Turner, passed away peacefully Monday, April 23, 2018, at his home.
He was born May 22, 1937, in North Turner, the son of Kennard Mason and Mae (Libby) Mason.

He attended Leavitt Institute in Turner and later received his GED. Following high school he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and was active in the reserves until 1966.
On Sept. 21, 1961, he married Vicky Page of Leeds. To many of his family and friends, he was known as “Dad,” “Bobby” and “Papa Bob.” Bob worked at Leavitt Orchards, Northland Packing Plant, was a groundskeeper at Turner Highlands and built the covered bridge there. He was very proud of the title “boxologist” because of the thousands of apple boxes he made and sold to local businesses.
He worked throughout the years with his father and brothers at the family sawmill, K.L. Mason & Sons Lumber. He spent a lot of time fishing with his children and teaching them carpentry. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, picking berries, husking corn and walking through the woods to the saw mill. He also enjoyed singing, building furniture and bird houses for his family and gardening.
He was a member of the North Turner Fire Department, Buckfield American Legion and the Nezinscot Masonic Lodge in Turner.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vicky Mason of Turner; his daughter, Brenda Kirk and husband Doug of Leeds; his son, Brad Mason of Freeport; three grandchildren, Ashley Alden and partner Glen Luce, Kate Kirk and fiancé Dayle Provencher and Kyle Kirk and wife Alicia; great-grandsons Mason and Wyatt; a great-granddaughter Temperance; nine sisters, Shirley Mahaney, Ann Morris and husband Millard, Jean Tucker and husband Phil all of Turner, Judy Gallop and husband Richard of Monmouth, Meredith Bigg of Turner, Margaret Blodgett of Jay, Marsha Laplante and husband Raoul of Livermore Falls, Joanne Keene and husband Roger of Turner, and Gayla Judd and husband Ken of Livermore, his brother, Randy Mason and wife Julie all of Turner, sister-in-law Rose Marie Mason and many nieces and nephews.
