SOUTH PARIS — Oxford Hills Technical School fashion design students are hosting “Threads,” the 15th annual spring runway show for the program.
Students will present the garment projects that they have been working on during the school year on Friday, May 4.
The students have been working extra hard to make their deadlines, said instructor Lori Millett
“We had nine snow days this year,” said Millett. “The class runs on a tight time schedule, and any snow day sets student work back.”
Millett, who has been teaching for 10 of the program’s 15 years, has provided after-school time to help students make their deadlines.
“The workroom has been busy for the past three or four weeks and not just after school. Students are here during study halls, lunch breaks and any time that they can squeeze in.”
The Fashion Design work/classroom, measuring 16 feet by 30 feet, is likely the smallest in the technical school. Students work on their independent projects, which could be dresses, tops and skirts, at their machines placed around the room. The program’s garment rack holds an assortment of clothes that the first and second year students have created. It is a kaleidoscope of blues, pinks, maroon and a variety of prints.
The set theme this year is a retro dress shop. Students painted the runway and work on set pieces during April vacation.
“Vacation week allows us to get a large amount of work done without interruptions. It’s quiet and we can focus on several tasks at one time,” Millett said. “I think the public will enjoy the soundtrack this year. The students are compiling the soundtrack with music from the 50s through the 80’s.”
The show will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, OHCHS Mark S. Eastman Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $4 under 12 and over 65 free.
