AUGUSTA — The Manchester Lions Club recently held its 45th annual Home and Garden Show at the Augusta Civic Center, with more than 50 vendors sharing advice, tools and service for local Mainers coming out of hibernation.
In addition to the vendors chatting with folks about their wares and services at the three-day event, there were activities and demonstrations.
There was vision screening for all ages, flower arranging, scavenger hunt, the return of Maine’s Cabin Masters of DIY-TV fame and activities for the children — including a Build-It-And-Take-It project by the Home Depot.
Adults on Friday had a chance, for a small fee, to taste many of Maine’s popular microbrews, while the kids could enjoy a youth dance demonstration and take a fire safety class.
Childrens artist and illustrator from the Lewiston/Auburn area, Vincent Myrand, was present on Sunday to talk about his illustration of children’s stories, including “The Wizard of Oz.”
A 50/50 raffle was held for one of Clark Marine’s large touring pontoon boats that will be donated to the Travis Mills Foundation, which operates the Travis Mills Retreat in Rome for military veterans who have been injured in combat.
Proceeds from the home show event are returned to the community through projects such as fighting blindness, youth sports programs, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, food and fuel assistance, local scholarships and more.
The Manchester Lions Club membership organizes and runs the annual event.
