AUBURN — Celeste Yakawonis and Trisha Scribellito will be guest speakers at upcoming meetings of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club from at the Village Inn, 165 High St. The meetings are held from noon to 1 p.m.
Yakawonis, who will be at the Thursday, May 3 meeting, has been a self-employed real estate paralegal for more then 30 years. A lifelong resident of Maine, she attended Lewiston High School, class of 1970, and the University of Maine, graduating in 1974.
In 2003, after joining the then Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, she began taking a greater interest in the community around her.
Deciding one business was not enough, she launched Gift Baskets by Celeste. Under various names, this business lasted 18 years, after which she established her latest venture — Party’n With Plants — hosting garden terrarium design classes. Currently she is a member of Central Maine Community College Foundation Board, recently joining a group at Tri-County Mental Health Agency to address and work toward solutions for the burgeoning opioid crisis.
Yakawonis was recently sponsored by Christine Wilson to re-activate her membership with the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club. She lives in Turner with her husband, Peter, dog Bruce and six cats. She loves spending time with her grown daughters, Katherine and Margaret.
Scribellito, speaker for the Thursday, May 10 meeting,is the coordinator of BookReach — a non-profit early literacy program supported by the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries — serving Lewiston, Auburn and Minot. This community collaboration of volunteer readers brings story times and children’s books to licensed family childcare homes. The mission is to raise a community of readers by enriching the lives of young children through the pleasure of reading.
Scribellito attended the University of Southern Maine and worked at the Lewiston Public Library prior to working with BookReach. She lives in Lisbon Falls, is married with a 10-year-old son, and is expecting another child in early July. She enjoys volunteering in her child’s classroom when time allows.
Reservations are not required at the luncheon. Visiting Rotarians and community members are welcome to attend.
