Growing Roots Maine Food Summit to be held throughout Farmington

FARMINGTON — Growning Roots, a week-long food summit, will take place in at venues througout Farmington between April 29 and May 5.
The event is hosted by the Greater Franklin Food Council to promote local food systems, and is a collaboration between United Way of the Tri-Valley Area; AmeriCorps Food for the Future; Healthy Community Coalition; The Maine Food Atlas; Catholic Rural Life; University of Maine Farmington, Sustainable Campus Coalition; National Resources Council of Maine; and The Maine Fiddlehead Festival. Events include:

Catholic Parish Food Summit, 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Hall, 133 Middle St. The event will include lunch at 11:45 a.m., followed by the summit from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Greater Franklin Food Summit, 3:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, West Farmington Grange, 124 Bridge St., West Farmington. The event will include a key note and conversation, local food, mainefoodatlas.org and more.

Screening of flim “Just Eat It!,” 6 p.m. Friday, May 4, Thomas Auditorium, Preble Hall, University of Maine at Farmington.

The Maine Fiddlehead Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, Emery Community Arts Center, UMF.
