LEWISTON – February and March were months filled with love at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, when three donations from area children resulted in lots of items, food and treats for the animals calling the shelter their temporary home. Julia Goucher, 10, of Monmouth, Jada Boudin, a sixth-grader from Turner, and Delaney Dill, 7, of Lewiston, all went the extra mile for the shelter.
Julia presented the humane society with the donations from her sixth birthday party on Feb. 10.
A kindergarten student at the Henry L. Cottrell School, Julia asked for donations for the pets in lieu of birthday gifts. Party guests donated pet food, treats and toys to help with the care of the thousands of unwanted animals the Humane Society helps each year.
On Feb. 17, Jada presented the shelter with the donations from her school project.
Jada, a sixth-grade student at Turner Elementary School, collected donations from the students, which included pet food, cat litter, toys and $225 to help care for the shelter’s animals.
Delaney presented the shelter with donations from her seventh birthday, on March 26. A first-grade student at the Acadia Academy, Delaney asked for donations for the pets in lieu of birthday gifts.
Party guests donated pet food, blankets, toys, timothy hay and cleaning supplies.
Located at 55 Strawberry Ave., the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a safe haven for more than 4,500 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area per year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations from individuals.
