WILTON — State Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, had a couple reminders for the Franklin and Kennebec county residents he represents in his recent newsletter.
Saviello reported that the Maine’s River Flow Advisory Commission met recently to analyze ongoing ice conditions, snowpack, streamflow, groundwater levels and flood risk across the state, and that the potential for spring floods is higher than average.
With a late spring expected this year, the highest potential for flooding will be in mid to late April, according to the Maine Office of the U.S. Geological Survey, he said.
Rivers in central and southern Maine have little ice remaining because of recent warmer temperatures, but northern Maine rivers still have as much as 40 inches of ice as well as snow. He also reminds residents that the Maine Senate is expected to be is session every weekday until April 18 as it finishes up the second session of the 128th Legislature. Residents can watch proceedings live at mainelegislature.gov.
Still in front of lawmakers are issues such as whether to conform Maine’s tax code to the recent federal changes, funding for the Downeast Correctional Facility, ranked choice voting, school safety and others.
