HALLOWELL — As Hallowell’s Water Street reconstruction project gets underway the first week in April, the first of series of events will be held.
On Saturday, April 7, the public is invited to participate in painting murals on canvas from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Harlow Gallery, 160 Water St.
The murals will be placed on construction fencing and on be display from April to October. Participation is free, materials will be provided, and all ages are welcome
Participants are encouraged to bring sketches and ideas and should expect to work collaboratively in small groups. The event is hosted by Harlow Gallery’s Education Committee and the Hallowell Arts and Cultural Committee. All murals will be auctioned off after construction is completed to support arts programming in Hallowell.
That evening, a Poker Pub Crawl is being hosted by Hallowell’s Down With the Crown Committee from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants stop at five bars in downtown Hallowell — Quarry Tap Room, The Maine House, The Liberal Cup, Hydeout at the Wharf and Easy Street Lounge — order a drink and pick up a playing card. Finishing at Easy Street Lounge, the individual with the best poker hand wins the grand prize.
Events over the next few months include a Pride festival and community yard sale on June 23, Hallowell’s Woodstock Revival on Aug. 12, a half marathon on Sept. 16, and a guitar-making exhibition on Oct. 5-14. For event information, visit Hallowell.org.
