RANGELEY — There wil be a free showing of the movie “The Passion of the Christ” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Rangeley Free Baptist Church, which is at the corner of Main and Lake streets.
The 2004 movie, directed and written by Mel Gibson, depicts the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. All are welcome to attend the nearly two-hour hour showing, but parental discretion is advised.
With a realistic portrayal of death by crucifixion, the movie has an R rating for violence and is recommended for audiences older than 12. Child care with activities will be available during the film.
Beginning with the garden of Gethsemane, the film follows the scourging, mocking, and crucifixion suffered by Jesus at the hands of Roman soldiers. It looks at the suffering of those who loved Jesus, including his mother, Mary, and ends with just a glimpse of the resurrection. It also explains the story behind Good Friday and Easter for those who may not be familiar with them. As of 2018, it is still the top grossing R-rated film of all time.
For any who wish to stay to discuss the film, there will be light refreshments and discussion in the downstairs of the church.
