LIVERMORE — Norlands, Maine’s oldest living history farm and museum, will celebrate Maine Maple Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday March 25, offering a breakfast of fresh hot pancakes and sausage — drizzled in Norlands’ own maple syrup.
The breakfast will be served in the historic farmer’s cottage and original 1867 Washburn family kitchen at Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road.
Visitors to the sap house can watch boiling demonstrations and meet the working team of oxen. Those wishing may help tap trees and collect sap.
The one-room schoolhouse also will be open, giving visitors an opportunity to journey back to 1853, where the schoolmarm will be ready to share the basics reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic, using materials of the time.
Guests may bring snowshoes (or boots) and burn breakfast calories by walking along the tranquil fields and wooded carriage trails on 445 acres.
Norlands’ own maple syrup and other maple treats, as well as other items, will be available in the gift shop.
The only charge is $5 to $7 for breakfast; otherwise, the event is free.
