AUGUSTA — With 2,080 moose permits issued in 2017, more than 1,500 hunters were successful in getting their moose, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Hunter success rates varied throughout different regions of the state, with more than 80 percent of hunters getting moose in Wildlife Management Districts 1-3 and 5 and 6 in Aroostook County.
Applications for the 2018 Maine Moose Permit Lottery are being accepted online. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 15.
