Collins meets with Maine American Legion members in Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, met with three members of the American Legion, Department of Maine, this week in her Washington, D.C., office.
Matt Jabaut, second vice commander; Doug Damon, post vommander of Post 12 in Bangor; and Jason Hall, fepartment judge advocate, were visiting the nation’s capital to participate in the American Legion’s Annual Washington Conference, according to a news release from Collins’ office.

“For nearly a century, Maine members of the American Legion have been committed to ensuring veterans and their families have access to the care and support they have earned and deserve,” said Collins. “I had a productive discussion with Matt, Doug, and Jason about the wonderful contributions the American Legion is making to improve communities across Maine and how the government can continue to serve our veterans.”
The American Legion is the largest wartime veterans service organization with 2.4 million members in approximately 14,000 posts in nearly every community in America, the news release said. The Legion, established by an act of Congress in 1919, was instrumental in getting the original GI Bill throughtCongress and the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
