Hallowell Maine to hold Brownfields 101 workshop Feb. 28

HALLOWELL — The city’s Brownfields Advisory Committee is holding a Brownfields 101 informational seminar, which is open to anyone wishing to learn more about the economic development program.
The workshop will be from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Hallowell City Hall, 1 Winthrop St.

Representatives from the New Jersy Institute of Technology and other experts from across the region will discuss the basics of brownfields and take a deeper dive into brownfield redevelopment.
The brownfields basics will include the definition of brownfields; a discussion of why there are so many brownfield sites; a brief overview of the brownfield assessment, remediation, and redevelopment processes; examples of brownfields that have been successfully redeveloped; a discussion of grant and funding programs, as well as information on the free assistance that the TAB Program can provide to support brownfield-impacted communities.
