SOUTH PARIS — The Paris Public Library will hold a family poetry night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, to honor Black History Month.
Author Roger Housden has said, “Everything I know about being human has been deepened by the poems I’ve read,” the library said in a news release.
“The artistry of poetry can offer us knowledge and deep understanding in a succinct form,” the release said. The program will be in the Children’s Room, and short poems about and by black Americans will be read and discussed.
Selections will include those from Maya Angelou’s “Poetry for Young People,” Langston Hughes’ “Poetry for Young People,” Belinda Rochelle’s “Words with Wings” and Kay Winters’ “Voices from the Underground Railroad.”
A large selection of books highlighting black history will also be on display.
The program is free and open to the public.
The short poetry selections will be appropriate for both children and adults.
