AUBURN – An event that will match entrepreneurial military veterans with small business owners looking to sell or transfer out of their successful small business will take place on Friday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 17.
The Maine Small Business Exchange is a first of its kind event, said Matt Leonard, CEO of Military Talent Source, LLC. It will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch, 14 Great Falls Plaza.
Qualified veterans have multiple funding resources available to them to assist in acquiring businesses, Leonard said in a news release. Maine has an overall aging demographic, and consequently many small business owners are looking or will be looking to sell or transfer their successful businesses in the near future.
“This is the perfect opportunity for small business owners to connect with veterans ready to transition,” Leonard said.
“I spend a great deal of time traveling around the country talking with veterans separating from service,” he said. “Many of them want to either start or buy a business. Combine that with the demographics of Maine and importance of small business in Maine, that we frequently hear about, and you can quickly see how an event such as this could be a tremendous opportunity for all involved.”
A welcome social will be held Friday for those individuals traveling to the event from out of state. The main event will take place Saturday, and will feature numerous guest speakers as well as a keynote address by Chris Tyll, a business owner and former Navy SEAl. The event is open to the public and non-veterans are welcome.
