LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus has scheduled a number of workshops for the coming weeks to help address health issues seniors may have.
Being diagnosed with a health condition that will never go away — such as arthritis, chronic pain, cancer, weight issues, depression, heart disease or diabetes — or learning a loved one has one can be scary.
It can also be a positive wake-up call and an invitation to learn how to live well, the organization said.
Across Androscoggin County people are learning how to manage their chronic health conditions by participating in the Living Well Program. It is delivered in a six-week series taught by trained community members, many of whom have chronic conditions themselves.
Living Well with Diabetes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays from Feb. 9 through March 16, in the Education Center, 8 Falcon Road.
Living Well with Chronic Pain will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays from Feb. 7 to March 14, in the Education Center, 8 Falcon Road.
Living Well for Better Health will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays from March 12 to April 16, in the Harper Conference Room, Ripley Building at Stephen’s Memorial, 181 Main St., Norway.
Living Well with Diabetes teaches participants tools to manage their Type 2 Diabetes, including menu planning, monitoring your levels, healthy eating, physical activity and foot care. If you care for someone with Type 2 Diabetes, this workshop is for you too!
Living Well with Chronic Pain is geared for those who have chronic pain lasting longer than 6 months, or for someone who cares for another with chronic pain. You learn appropriate exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, endurance, techniques for pacing activity and rest, and how to evaluate new treatments for you.
There will be a drawing for a $25 Visa gift card at the end of each workshop and snacks will be provided during each session.
