AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will be holding a variety of programs for teens and tweens during the month of February, from employment guidance, to dating violence awareness to crafts and games.
Events and activities include:
Maine Job Corps — Teens and new adults (ages 16-24) have an opportunity to acquire the skills needed to succeed in today’s job market. Contact Cathie Gavett of the Maine Job Corps, 207-458-5369, to find out more about this program and who is eligible. A mutually convenient time for a meeting at the library will be arranged.
Teen Life Skills: Healthy Relationships, Tuesdays, Feb. 13 and 27, 3 to 4 p.m. in the Teen Space — February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. In recognition of this important annual event, schools and teen centers all over the country are participating in special activities. Whitney Parrish, the Androscoggin County Community Educator for Safe Voices, will be at the library for a game or activity centered around dating and healthy relationships. There will be snacks, candy and prizes; for ages 12-18.
Tweens in the Teen Space, Wednesdays, Feb. 14 and 28, noon to 2 p.m. — those in in sixth grade are invited to the Teen Space on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. The library will provide crafts or board games, or simply stop by to hang out or to get a head start on homework.
Gaming Hour, Wednesdays, February 14 and 28, 4 to 5 p.m., Androscoggin Community Room — Take a break from studying and stop by the Androscoggin Room on the lower level for video games and snacks.Teens are welcome to bring their favorite games, but only those rated T and E. Just for teens, ages 12 to 18.
SAPARS drop-in visit, Tuesday, Feb. 20, 3 to 4 p.m., Teen Space — Visit with Julia, an advocate from Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services. Each month, Julia will meet with teens to discuss the issues important to them, including consent, bullying, sexual assault and harassment, bystander intervention, and internet safety. Visits may include question and answer, educational videos or activities. All teens (ages 12 to 18) are welcome to drop in. This event takes place the secondnd Tuesday of each month in the Teen Space, and will include a snack.
Matinee Movie: “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” Wednesday, Feb. 21, 3 to 5 p.m., Androscoggin Community Room — Visit the library for a movie during school vacation week. In case you didn’t get enough chocolate for Valentine’s Day, the February movie will feature chocolate. The snack will too — a chocolate fondue with fun food items to dip. The program is just for those ages 12 to 18.
