WATERVILLE — Steve Fotter felt out of sorts one morning last October, and skipped breakfast. A short while later he felt discomfort in his chest, which he attributed to gas or indigestion.
Soon, the discomfort became a sharp pain in his chest that radiated into his left arm. He knew then that something certainly was not right and asked his wife, Linda, to call 911.
Delta Ambulance dispatched paramedic Ray Whitney and his partner, EMT Alix Penney, to the Fotter home. Shortly after they arrived, Fotter, 62, went into cardiac arrest.
Whitney and Penney leapt into action immediately administering CPR and defibrillation.
Fotter, musician, guitar instructor and a little bit comedian, is happy and well today because of Whitney and Penney’s skill.
On Friday, Jan. 19, Fotter, along with his wife, Linda, joined Sen. Scott Cyrway, R- Benton, for an appreciation visit to Delta Ambulance in Waterville, where Cyrway delivered a recognition to Whitney and Penney for their successful efforts that day.
He added a gift of a Maine State flag that was previously flown over the capitol for each. The visit concluded after the group had a while to talk more about that day in October and tour Delta’s facilities.
Delta Ambulance said, “Kudos to Ray and Alix, congratulations and thank-you to Steve and thank-you to Senator Cyrway.”
Delta Ambulance, founded in 1972, provides emergency services and medical transportation in central Maine.
