WILTON — Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols will present a basic handgun training session for ages 21 and older from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Wilton Fish & Game Association, 256 U.S. Route 2.
A second class will be held Saturday, March 24. Class size is limited to 10 students, allowing adequate instruction per student.
Taking the class will lead to a certificate of training from the Sheriff’s office — proof of required training in order to obtain a concealed handgun permit. Sheriff Nichols is a certified firearms instructor through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, and the certificate is recognized by the state.
The class is an opportunity to learn safe gun practices. Students must bring their own, unloaded hand gun in a holster with at least 50 rounds of ammunition as well as a belt for the holster and hearing and eye protection. No magnums are allowed on the indoor range.
Participants are required to preregister and pay a $20 fee at least two weeks prior to the session they wish to attend.
