OAKLAND — The Rev. Timothy W. Lewis has been appointed to serve at the Oakland United Baptist Church, 45 Church St.
The church has been without a pastor for about a year and members have said they are excited to move forward with Lewis’ leadership guiding the congregation on its spiritual journey, the church said in a news release.
Lewis plans to “preach and teach Biblical truth from the pulpit, keeping the church strong, and providing a light that will be attractive to seekers and skeptics,” the release said.
Lewis received a diploma in Christian studies from the Ockenga Institute of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and graduated from the American Baptist Churches of Maine Institute for Ministry in 2008, receiving his ordination in 2010.
Before his appointment, he served at Washington Village Church for more than 15 years. He and his wife Kelley have been married for more than 40 years they have two adult sons and four grandchildren.
Lewis has worked in the automobile industry since graduating high school. “I realize that this type of employment has little to nothing to do with being a local pastor, however, this employment did teach me great patience and humility,” he said. “It taught me some skills in dealing with people and was a great way to strengthen my walk with the Lord, as I had to rely on Him for daily encouragement.”
“When truth is spoken, it must be done in love,” he said, adding, “The old adage is true — people won’t care how much you know even if it is the truth, until they know how much you care.”
The Oakland United Baptist Church meets each Sunday morning at 11a.m.; all are welcome to attend. The OUBC has been serving the community since 1844.
