FALMOUTH — Jordan Burns, a South Paris 10th grader, was named the STAR student at the Maine Connections Academy, the state’s first virtual public charter school.
Jordan was chosen because of his excellent engagement in lessons and likelihood to take advantage of available MCA resources and support, according to a news release from the school. Jordan also demonstrates a real interest in learning by attending school field trips and academic summits.
Jordan enrolled at Maine Connections Academy in 2017 when he was seeking an alternative to his public school, the release said. He feels that the classes are quieter, which makes it easier to listen to the teacher and enjoy the lessons. Jordan’s favorite subjects are Honors Algebra, because it comes easy to him, and Web Design because it’s fun and creative.
In his spare time, Jordan enjoys repairing computers, playing computer games, and playing “Zombies, Run!”– an exercise application with a fun twist. He also spends time volunteering with his Boy Scout troop. Jordan is interested in a career in computer repair, because he enjoys learning how to fix, disassemble, reassemble and upgrade a computer. MCA is excitef about recognizing Jordan as its December STAR Student and can’t wait to see where he goes next, school officials said.
