OAKLAND — The Oakland Public Library will host representatives from the Chewonki Foundation at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16 in the children’s room.
They will be bringing “Fur, Feathers & Feet: Introduction to Birds and Mammals” to help participants discover the differences and similarities between birds and mammals through active learning by dressing two students in bear and bird costumes.
Participants handle and examine beak, foot and feather specimens to get a closer look at each animal’s special adaptations. Chewonki’s mallard duck and a live, non-releasable mammal bring these ideas to life.
According to the foundation’s web site, Chewonki is “a school, camp and environmental education organization based in Wiscasset . . . that inspires transformative growth, teaches appreciation and stewardship of the natural world and challenges people to build thriving, sustainable communities throughout their lives.”
