AUGUSTA — The summary of Maine’s snowmobile and ATV laws are now available online, the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife announced.
Even without cell or internet service, smartphone users can access a law book they previously downloaded to check a technical rule, confirm registration fees, etc., while they’re out in the field, the department said.” If you always keep your phone on you (and charged) to take photos or use the GPS, this is a no-brainer,” said a news release.
Those who have an iPhone can get the laws through the Safari browswer, by visiting mefishwildlife.com and clicking the link for the PDF. When it opens, tap on the first page, then tap Open in iBooks. The file is now saved in the iBooks app.
Android uses can go to Chrome, visit mefishwildlife.com, tap on the menu (three dots) on the right, then tap download. The file is now saved to the downloads s app. Some Android users will also have to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader app.
It’s also downloadable on the computer, by visiting mefishwildlife.com.
The full law book can be downloaded, or specific laws and rules can be looked up on the website.
Using the digital version of the lawbook helps the Maine outdoors, the department said. “Every year, we print over 125,000 ATV and snowmobile law books. That’s (a) a lot of paper, and (b) a lot of money that we think would be better spent preserving Maine’s fish and wildlife and their habitats.
“Trusting that many of you will agree and opt for the digital version, we reduced the number of printed copies of the hunting law book a bit this year, and eliminated printing of the ATV and snowmobile law book. Going more digital is just one way we can work together for the Maine outdoors.”
