Saviello invites students to serve as honorary pages in Maine Senate

AUGUSTA – Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, is inviting area students to join him at the State House for a day to serve as an honorary page in the Maine Senate.

Saviello represents District 17, which comprises Avon, Belgrade, Carrabassett Valley, Carthage, Chesterville, Coplin Plantation, Dallas Plantation, East Central Franklin, Eustis, Farmington, Fayette, Industry, Jay, Kingfield, Mount Vernon, New Sharon, New Vineyard, North Franklin, Phillips, Rangeley, Rangeley Plantation, Sandy River Plantation, Strong, Temple, Vienna, Weld, West Central Franklin and Wilton.

The second regular session of the 128th Legislature begins Wednesday, Jan. 3 and runs through April 18. The Senate uses pages daily during the session. The program is open to students from third grade through high school.

As a page, students have the opportunity to participate in a legislative session, delivering messages and distributing documents within the Senate Chamber.

“I believe every student should take part in the paging program,” Saviello said. “When they are at the State House, they perform the crucial functions of helping lawmakers communicate and making sure things run smoothly during the legislative session. It’s a great experience that helps them learn their connection to state government.”
