Hamper invites area students to be honorary pages in Maine Senate

Dec. 242017

AUGUSTA — Sen. James Hamper, R-Oxford, is inviting area students to join him at the State House for a day to serve as an honorary page in the Maine Senate. Hamper represents District 19, which comprises Bridgton, Brownfield, Denmark, Fryeburg, Harrison, Hiram, Naples, Norway, Otisfield, Oxford, Paris, Porter and Sebago.

As a page, students have the opportunity to participate in a legislative session, delivering messages and distributing documents within the Senate chamber.

“One of my favorite things about serving in the Senate is the chance to interact with students from Oxford County and around the state in the Senate chamber,” said Hamper. “Through the honorary page program, students gain hands-on knowledge about the legislative process and our state government, which is invaluable.”

The program, lasting for one day’s session, is open to students from third grade through high school. The Legislature schedules pages for each session day. The session begins Wednesday, Jan. 3, and concludes Wednesday, April 18.
