Rangeley Lakes Trails Center Fat-tire Bike Loppet is Jan. 28

Dec. 222017

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Lakes Trails Center will host its third annual Fat-Tire Bike Loppet Sunday, Jan. 28, beginning at 10 a.m. A loppet is a long endurance race or athletic event occurring across varied terrain.

The Rangeley Fat-tire Bike Loppet course takes advantage of the varied terrain available at the Trails Center — from wide straight aways to gradual ascent and descents, to aggressive hill climb/descent opportunities. Views and possible wildlife sightings are included.

The course is a mix of some single-track but mostly wide-open groomed trails. Course length is 10 or 20 miles, but length may be adjusted based on snow conditions.

The center’s stadium (larger than a football field) provides an excellent venue for mass starts and great visibility for an exciting finish. There is a side hill overlooking the stadium that also provides a perfect vantage point for spectators. There are several places along the course that are in the vicinity of the center’s yurt lodge providing good places for cheering/spectating.

The center is at 524 Saddleback Road.
